The Loft

"The Loft" is an ongoing look at the view and life of a semi-eremitic mountain dweller here on the Cumberland Plateau of Tennessee. Pictures and stories, a poem or two, something to ponder, heart, mind, body and soul!

Picture by Ms Teri Goode - View from our back porch

Winter's Embrace

Surely a sign of heaven's grace,
When we awoke to winter's embrace

No such beauty could be a mistake,
When not a branch the snow did brake

Mountains and valleys mantled in white,
All framed in a misty blue-gray light

A natural wonder gladly received,
For the eye and mind so visually perceived

Picture by the Buzzard - View from our back porch

Outside My Back Door

Outside my back door,
Old man winter fast approaches.

Unleashed by feral winds,
The mournful wail of what has been,
Winter's just outside my back door.

Trees long past weeping,
Find no easy task of sleeping,
Winter's just outside my back door.

Bemoan the dark gray sky,
Torrents of leaves imply,
Winter's just outside my back door.

I see all is revealed,
Nothing left concealed,
As winter approaches my back door.
